Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, little town that is a bit sleepy. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. However, this isn't the truth. Brugel was an aspiring young lady living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. She aspired to be a professional dancer but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. As I grew older than my male friends, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned to acting. Her teacher from high school encouraged her in the right direction. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school production. The teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual show. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work has been seen on the large and small screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her role as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian of the season 1 actors of the series as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
